How to Save Your Saturdays and Your Sanity: A Mom’s Guide to Living Your Best Life
Now that the chaos of summer is winding down and the kids are going back to school, it’s prime time for moms to regroup and set a new routine. But that’s way easier said than done because, let’s face it—we moms are so down on ourselves. We always think we’re doing it “wrong.”
Who here has mom guilt? Cleaning, dinner, carpooling, laundry, work, spending quality time with your kids—we all feel like we’re failing. But you don’t have to!
Here are some things you can do to help you reduce chaos, and in the process enjoy the rich family life you deserve.
Create a Workable Schedule
Are your mornings super hectic? Make a list of what each kid needs to accomplish before school so you don’t have to keep reminding them. Same for after school. The more you can share to-dos with your kids, the less there will be on your plate and they will build self-confidence as they learn to do more and see how they can make a difference. As for your own schedule, what time of day do you feel most stressed? Many times our routines take on a life of their own, but you can take back control and be more intentional. Schedule in times where you rest or turn off the WiFi. Are your kids always wanting your attention during bedtime? Schedule in some one-on-one time with them! Then you won’t feel like you’re pulling yourself away from something else.
Don’t Overplan or Overcommit
What does Supermom even look like? And why do you want to be her? Just be you. You don’t have to volunteer when you don’t have the time or energy. It’s ok to say no to others so you can say yes to your kids or yourself. Your emotional state is an important consideration. Are you an overcommitted grouch who stresses out your kids? As a busy mom of four, I have to narrow down our outside activities. Each of my kids has one main activity they participate in, but that’s it. Plus, we don’t go to every school or church function. Don’t wait until you’re stretched thin to let things go—give yourself permission now to keep things simple.
Meal Plan for Hard Days
Be honest with yourself. Can you really cook from scratch every night? It’s ok if you don’t. This isn’t a competition, and there are convenient options to get the job done. Crock pot night is a great solution to nights when you have busy activities. Have a short list of go-to quick meal you can throw together, like a rotisserie chicken, salad and fruit. Pre-prepped meals or freezer meals are a great solution as well. Get a meal plan in place, and give yourself a break.
Get Real with Chores
You can’t do it all, nor should you. Teach your kids to help out while at the same time lessening your load. Work with your kids to come up with their daily chore list. Get weekly and monthly chore lists down as well. Your spouse and older children can definitely help with those. But here’s where you don’t let that mom guilt creep in—if you can’t keep up with certain areas of your home, don’t stress. Hire a maid service like Castle Keepers House Cleaning to deep clean those bathrooms so you can rejuvenate and relax during your bathroom routine. It takes a lot of work just to keep up with the daily chores like dishes and laundry, but lots of moms find the feel a huge wave of relief when they hire a professional house cleaning company to do the weekly and monthly house cleaning task. Just imagine coming home to your home being all clean at the same time! This is a busy season in your life, and it’s ok to get help. Hiring a house cleaner is definitely cheaper than therapy!
Plan Fun Stuff
Take back your Saturdays! Everything you are doing to get on track during the week can equal a big payoff on the weekends. But don’t wait until you wake up on Saturday morning to figure out what you should do that day. Plan ahead! Queen Creek has tons of fun stuff to do. Go out to breakfast or lunch at Olive Mill. It has amazing outdoor seating and fire tables. Or head over to San Tan Flat, where you can get some grub and listen to live music. You can even roast marshmallows at your outdoor table! Another family friendly spot is Schnepf Farms, which has fun festivals throughout the year. Queen Creek’s newest and most popular spot, Mansel Carter Oasis Park, has a lake, splashpad, huge play area for kids, skate park, sports fields, and ramadas. You could spend all day there! Did you know Queen Creek is home to many horse enthusiasts? Head over to Horseshoe Park and Equestrian Centre for a fun family night at the rodeo.
Moms, take some time for you. You need time to wind down and relax in the tub or knit while you binge on Netflix. You need to get together and gab with your friends. You need to go on a getaway with your spouse. Make a list of things you can to do take care of yourself and put them in your schedule. If you don’t have enough time for the house cleaning, stop beating yourself up and get back HOURS of your life by hiring a maid service to help. Most of those people that you think have it all together – they have a team of help, and you deserve it to! Once you’ve hired a professional house cleaning service you can start enjoying peaceful weekends and evenings, with time to focus on what matters most to you.
Life can get messy sometimes, but it doesn’t have to stay that way! With these tips hopefully you can begin living your best life and really enjoying all that your home in Queen Creek has to offer. Think about what your kids will remember about their growing up years. Certainly they’ll remember the fun outings. But they’ll definitely recall how they felt in your home, and how their mom influenced them. So try to let go of what you can, plan the important stuff, and create lasting memories!
